South Dakota Mission

Help support South Dakota‘s hunting heritage.  The profits from all the items purchased from this site will go to benefit South Dakota’s Wildlife Conservation, Habitat Improvements, and also Public Access.  Our RMEF volunteers in South Dakota work very hard year round to make sure the funds raised in our state get used on our state projects.

The products on this site change frequently, so make sure you check back often to see any new items that we may have available.  Also if there are any items that you would like to see on here please let us know so that we can try to accommodate you.

We encourage anyone wanting to get involved with any of our various projects to please contact us and we will get you in touch with the various project leaders in your area.

The mission of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is to ensure the future of elk, other wildlife, their habitat and our hunting heritage. Since 1984, we have protected and enhanced over 7.3 million acres of wildlife habitat. We also support hunting heritage programs and help restore wild elk herds. Along the way, we have helped open access to 1.2 million acres for public hunting and other recreation.

In South Dakota, RMEF and its partners completed 359 conservation and hunting heritage outreach projects with a combined value of more than $41.2 million.  These projects protected or enhanced 120,433 acres of habitat and opened or improved public access to 11,472 acres.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation believes that Hunting Is Conservation. Hunters and anglers were among the first crusaders for conservation and we remain today’s most important conservation leaders.

Did you know….
• In 1907, only 41,000 elk remained in North America. Today there are well over 1 million elk thanks to the money and hard work invested by hunters to restore and conserve habitat.
• In 1937, hunters actually requested an 11% tax on guns, ammo, bows and arrows to help fund conservation. That tax has so far raised more than $2 billion for wildlife conservation.
• Through donations to groups like RMEF, hunters add $300 million a year to conservation efforts.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is encouraging everyone who supports hunting and conservation to get involved and take greater pride in our legacy.

Thank you for your support,

South Dakota RMEF
